manuallly chown of brightness and vga switcheroo files and do not include

I see the same issue on my machine. It has started happening after I
migrated to a new disk. I installed 12.04.1 from scratch and copied my
old home directory over it.
Note that I use nvidia-current, not xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (original
bug reporter uses nvidia-current too IMO).

I've managed to build openchrome 0.3.1 driver and now after X is started
the screen gets black and I can't even get console (Ctrl+Alt+F1). I've
checked Xorg.0.log(attached) but couldn't find any error message. Could
it be something special with my system using VBE mode ?

Well, I could not trigger the bug, but had crashes every few hours.
Since when updating to the proposed package, I had no more crashes -
can't be 100% sure it's fixed, given the random nature of the thing, but
it seems ok, and it's for sure much better than before.

My findings so far (with my T420s):
- disabling the touchpad with 'xinput disable/enable' works as many times as I
like
- disabling the touchpad with the hotkey fails to enable it, even though the
logfile gets a new touchpad found entry, and the same with the old driver
version... Logging out

Using that driver and *without lo-menubar installed*, LibreOffice starts
and behaves normally, with one exception: The menu titles are all
blacked out until selected by cursor.
When starting up libreoffice with lo-menubar
i am having a similar problem...except that i have an amd ati radeon
graphic cardsi dont have problem with ubuntu but have problem with
backtrack 5 r3...i use it via USB..boots normal but after 2 minutes
or sometimes 1 or sometimes 5 minute the whole screen doesnt respond to
mouse
