I started this version of Lubuntu for the first time in several months.
I guess the nvidia driver tried to update itself (without my say-so) and failed.
Update Manager is concurrently informing me there's a system upgrade to
Quantal Quetzal available. I plan to try the

[i965] Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the
desktop before it suspended. Compiz hung in intel_update_renderbuffers()
I can reproduce it with the newest nux and v310 nvidia driver. I don't
experience behavior like that when using GNOME Shell.

I sampled a few call stacks of the slowdown using gdb. It looks like the
system is spending a lot of time in the NVIDIA driver, called from
libpixman-1-0's fetch_and_convert_pixel. I've attached a representative
stack trace from GDB, with pixman debug symbols.

'top' showed that all of the CPU time was being spend in xorg.

I installed fglrx and xserver-xorg-video-intel packages from Nick's PPA and it
worked like a charm i can even switch between the graphics from the catalyst
control center.

i got to reinstall ubuntu 3 times to make it works.
the fglrx isn't working too, cant compile with dkms,
because of that the game that I bought on ubuntu store: 'sacred: gold' isn't

This was fixed by bringing up a terminal from within the crippled desktop, and
then executing:
unity --reset
The Window Manager started working correctly.
Upon reboot, the machine booted to X and showed the graphical login
screen.
