One pixel column that belongs in one monitor
Last week (28th November) I was using inkscape without problems. I tried
to downgrade all ubuntu packages that were upgraded last week, but
without success. Now it does not work at all. My workaround is to use
inkscape through VNC.

I've had the same problem until I downgraded the kernel. Open Software Center
and search for „kernel 3.7”. Remove everything related to this kernel and keep
the old one instead.

When I switch the PC on it takes from 10 to 120 seconds until the

let you choose a previous kernel version to try;

Have you got a different resolution monitor that you could borrow to try it
with?
I notice the monitors you are using are 1366x768 and I've seen other problems
with that res because it's not divisible by 8

So I make the jump and install kernel 3.6.3-030603-generic 5 days ago.
( I use the instruction from here
http://www.upubuntu.com/search/label/System)
And also install a new Nvidia driver 3.04.64.
For about 5 days I didn't have any crash untill about 5 minutes ago.
Bummer.
