Try to build openchrome according https://help.ubuntu.com/community/OpenChrome
but before build replace via_swov.c file.
What exactly motherboard/laptop do you have?

modesetting-strict issue.

-X11 Video playing with VLC works (CPU 100%)
-XV Video does NOT work
-openGL works bad (penguinracer UP TO 2 FPS with 640x480)
Driver withOUT patch:

Now, with vga=791 the fontsize of the terminal is smaller (a.e. from 20
to 10pt --- before suspend to RAM).
AFTER suspend to ram (Strg+Alt+F1) I could enter something to the
terminal, and see it (without vga=791) I couldn't recognize some entered
from the terminal.
But now the display is divided
