Ok I see, calling xrandr will by default expand the virtual screen as
if the external monitor is right of LVDS, even if we directly call
xrandr --output VGA1 --below LVDS.
I tried with LVDS1=1280x800 and VGA1=1280x1024 (native resolutions, chosen by
default).
VGA1 at the right/left of LVDS1 will
pavolzetor, we prefer to keep only one issue per bug report, since
otherwise bug reports fill up with irrelevant information. In this case
the original reported issue was the artifacts during boot, and that has
now been fixed. The flickering is a separate issue and deserves a
separate bug report.
I had to discard ubuntu for my wife's new acer and revert back to the
default Win XP because of this bug. Very disappointed. None of the many
workarounds worked.

One last post. I have tested the ATI OSS drivers on the Intrepid 32bit
Live CD and they worked great. Even better than Karmic. The
performance was also good and all textures showed up normally. I am
certain that the 64bit ones on that distribution still did not work for
me. So the problem

between behavior with my USB tablet and my serial tablet.
