There's no way that the behavior described here can be a Transmission
issue.
This appears to be a duplicate of bug 626974 but I'm not the one who
would say for sure. Bumping this over to the xorg-server (Ubuntu)
people for a second opinion.

When I put my notebook in docking-station, with secondary monitor attached, I
still get the same behavior as before (have to press Alt-SysRq-K to get X
restart). The bug is fixed for me when booting WITHOUT secondary monitor
attached. So it seems that Plymouth doesn't work correctly with
apport-collect requires python-launchpadlib indeed. I just don't have
enough time, I'm sorry. I think this is not such an important bug, as
the affected computer is more than 10 years old now and I suggest we

This is occurring because the driver is detecting a TV connected to the
computer.
Since the SL400 has no analog tv output, this should not happen.
I had the same bug in CentOS, and the workaround was to adjust xorg.conf with a

Update : I added the line nomodeset in the grub parameters, with the same

This mess was caused by a faulty libcairo2 package in a repo I added to my
software sources list (the gimp-dev one).
I switched back to ubuntu's default package and everything's fine now.

I too have experienced this hard freeze, which requires me to power off the

Can please report what is using the cpu (i.e. watch top) whilst playing

VLC is at the top, Compiz below, and xprop third.
Then follow that up with the highlights from 'sudo perf top
--sort=dso' and 'sudo perf top' (apt-get install linux-tools). Just cut

modes you provided( -vo xv and -vo gl) , just like with vlc. Mplayer -vo

I tried running the command you typed and it error-ed out with 'file not
found' so I did sudo -s and ran the command as root; it gave an error
stating x server 0 was already in use then a couple seconds after that
it seems to start to play then errors out with resolution warnings.

If you walk me through how to take some sort of screenshot or how to
copy the errors from a terminal screen/the mplayer terminal, I will post
the errors received when I tried to run the commands per your
instructions.

Updated raring on March 16th. After update xrandr is detecting a non-
existant VGA display on T500 laptop.

This is what happens when I boot with live video=radeonfb:1024x768-32
(which usually works, but I don't know why because I'm using ati, not
radeon)

I'm seeing this on an Lenovo T420. I frequently see it when coming out
of hibernation (because my system is still swapping in).
I can recover by suspending to memory and then unresponding. At that
point the touchpad works again just fine without restarting X.
