Thanks for testing this. For what it's worth, I have been suspecting a recent kernel patch which altered graphics card timings, but I'm not really sure. It is interesting from that perspective that you booted an earlier kernel and it did not make the issue go away. I wonder if something changed

The kernel patch certainly could have an effect. I tested to make sure that the breakage was not limited to 2.6.32 (pre) kernels. However, I did not rule out that it was introduced somewhere in the 2.6.31-?? series. I suspect that the altered graphics card timings -- External monitor suddenly
