Unfortunately this is still happening for me - though in much lower
rate. My vga is: VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Alder

How often does it happen for you?
i'm currently running 4days without the bug.
previously it was consistently happening every 24 hours at least once

Perhaps every 2 days. Initially it is working find (let's say 2-3 days)
and once it hangs (note no GPU hang kernel logs) perhaps every day. I
have teams open in chrome browser with notifications on.

Actually bug controllers don't get the nominate for series link because
we get a "Target for series" link instead. Which means the nomination
was accepted. But the problem is that accepting it and creating a jammy
task also requires the task have an owner - someone assigned to do the
backporting.
I actually failed to mention that before the update I was experiencing
the crash. Not instead of the crashing UI is freezing.

Title:
The first step would be to identify what to backport to jammy. If the
answer is:
https://github.com/intel/media-
driver/commit/469f8c9f0d497320772629c912464018da653876
then it's quite large so needs to be discussed with the kernel team who
manage hardware enablement.

Sounds like another fix similar to bug 1983456 will be required.

Yes Gunter you might be correct. For me it is a freeze but seems related
since other people have reported the same issue stating the revert of
the two commits solved the freeze issue. There are no GPU hangs in the
kernel logs (I just wanted to stress that out). I guess I will open a
new bug
Public bug reported:
kwin and plasmashell randomly freeze usually when there is a
notification window pop up. I have to use kwin_x11 --replace or
plasmashell --replace in order to make screen responsive. Please note I
can still type to the app that currently is open (let's say FeatherPad)
but
Hi Daniel,
I am not a Ubuntu bug supervisor so I do not have a "nominate for
series" link (found this out via
https://answers.launchpad.net/launchpad/+question/140509). If you are,
could you please help out, or rope in someone who can?
About intel-media-va-driver-non-free: This is the workaround
On my machine the crashes also seem to be solved. I was using Intel
driver until the weekend (since I use this laptop) and then switched to
the nVidia binary drivers because I wanted to use CUDA for some
experiments.
kwin seems to run properly with both so far.
