Kampala

The African Union has passed a resolution condemning the recent massacre of people in Lira by the rebel Lord's Resistance Army.Uganda's ambassador to Ethiopia, Mr Wasswa Birigwa, said on Thursday that the AU also offered its condolences to the people of Uganda and expressed its solidarity with them.


The rebels killed about 192 people last Saturday in Barlonyo displaced persons camp. The government, however, insists only 84 people died in the attack.The condemnation came two days to the opening of the AU's 2nd extraordinary summit in Libya.Relevant.


President Museveni and wife Janet are already in Sirte, the summit venue.The summit will focus on defence and security issues as well as water and agricultural resources.
