Quiet, Suburban by Ilana Vine Come, be part of the creative process! Ask questions. Give input, what works what doesn't. Help a local playwrite! Featuring: Chelsea Bulack, Tessa Kuhn, and Jennifer Summerfield Directed by Bianca Fiscella ABOUT THE PLAY: Naomi, a sarcastic and straightforward 16 year old, is sent to a psychiatric hospital after overdosing on a bottle of aspirin. Meanwhile, Naomi’s sister Maura, 20, returns home from the music conservatory she’s studying at to compete in a prestigious piano competition. Their mother, Linda (always concerned with Maura’s succes...s) doesn’t tell her about Naomi out of a fear that the situation will distract her from the competition. Maura also has a secret: despite her success as a piano player, she’s found the conservatory exhausting and overwhelming and isn’t planning to return to school. As the story unfolds all three women must wrestle with the silence of their pasts while trying to find their voices to make a better future. ABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHT: Ilana Vine is a West Philadelphia resident who has directed shows for the Philadelphia Fringe Festival (A Lesson In Dead Language) and has directed several staged readings for Primary Stages. Ilana graduated Bryn Mawr in 2009 and is currently a guest teaching artist at her alma mater, teaching playwriting to students in introductory creative writing classes. This is the first staged reading of her play Quiet, Suburban. -- Gay Carducci General Manager Curio Theatre Company 815 S. 48th St. Phila.
