I apologise if this topic was already discussed, but I wonder if the
incompatibility between commons-logging 1.3 and slf4j 1.7.x is a known
issue?
Trying to use both results in "java.lang.IllegalStateException:
Recursive update" being thrown due to the logging systems trying to
get a logger

I have updated the master branch with a change to allow fitting a mixture
with 1-column data.
You should be able to pick up the 4.0-SNAPSHOT from the ASF snapshots repo
if you configure your build to add the snapshot repository (see [1]).
