Actually ive noticed the same thing with playsms.
The query that playsms receive on %Q variable is 1234 and not the
number of the simcard in the modem (as far as i had understood there
should be that number right?)

I remember theres issue with this.. not sure if this is the same issue,
I checked my kannel.conf on a working server, I've added my-number in
smsc group, without it I get 1234 in %Q
# SMSC fastrack

smsc = at
smsc-id = gsm1
allowed-smsc-id = gsm1
preferred-smsc-id = gsm1

want let Kannel divide the big SMS in two or more.

Kannel automatically divides messages into necessary pieces. Only the logs
show them as 1 message, otherwise the message is received on the handset in
2 separate parts. You can test it.
There is no separate configuration of this, if you original config is OK.
