Hi List,
Is anyone familiar with a problem when UCP smsc speed
drops temporarily under load?
throughput is set to 30, but the actual speed drops to 2/3 messages per
second (though there are plenty of messages queued up on the smsc) for
about 15-20 minutes and then comes back to normal.

When configuring thoughput for smpp connections, what may lead Kannel to

Actually, kannel can reuse validity period and automatically issue (perhapse

period by some good value (lets say + 1 day - this should be more than
enough).
In fact we could issue another kind of dlr even -
Set up multiple group = smsc groups with same credentials.
Note that you should have them all defined with same smsc-id to avoid DLR
issues (because kannel uses smsc-id as part of the key for dlr lookup, and
since you're using same account, the remote smsc may send the DLRs over any

Hi Justin,
Actually, we've hit serious performance problems in my deployment, and the

Hi Mohamed,
You can use SMPPbox with Kannel - it is an smpp server
There is opensource one release by Rene Kluwen - you can find it here:

community means (via this mailing list).

I have a link with throughput=50 configured (and the other side allows 50),
but in reality, the link sends out only up to 30 submit_sm's per second.
Why is this happening? is this the maximum Kannel can do on a single smpp

Hi all,
Does Kannel architecture allow scaling bearerbox in any way?
Right now i have kannel running on one machine and a second machine standing
by to take over (by heartbeat) in case of the first machine failure.
But thats only redundancy.
I see that i can create a lot of smsboxes to connect
Yeah, but this doesnt really solve the problem for MT messages - as in this
case an external application needs to load balance the throughput instead of
Kannel.
And if i'm limited in speed (and i am) , neither bearerbox will know how
many messages has another one sent so far...

Hi Marc,
To connect to multiple SMPP SMSCs, just create multiple smsc = smpp blocks

I've got an issue with SMPP link becoming very slow suddenly.

Ain't we all. No driver for it. A project initiated by openss7 has been

Good day everyone,
From some of my smpp links i get SMS returned error code 0x0008 (System
Error) in response to submit_sm.
This leads to kannel getting into infinite loop of retrying such a message
every 0 seconds (eg without delay at all) until i restart the gateway (and
wipe store file).

Hi Kiran,
check contrib folder in kannel source tree, there are examples of picture
message construction in there (iirc theres a php file there with a few
samples of different smart-messaging data formats)
you need to send both data (which consists of otb image + text, constructed

To send unicode text, you need to convert it to UCS-2 (and then urlencode),
and add coding=2 parameter to url
in php you can use either iconv (builtin) or recode (requires recode
extension) function to convert text to UCS-2 encoding
