You need a:

group = modems

in your kannel.conf. See the userguide for details.

Has anyone managed to use this GSM card at all? Verizon in the US provided it for us to test; Linux recognises our PCMCIA adapter fine, sees the modem (provides a link under /dev), and Kannel can even talk to the modem - here is what I get:

Clearly, the modem is recognised as a modem, but it dies with "2005-09-20 18:23:22 [4093] [6] PANIC: Where are the modem definitions ?!?!"
Here is my kannel.conf file (not yet heavily modified from the default provided in the source distribution):

#ssl-server-cert-file = "cert.pem"
#ssl-server-key-file = "key.pem"

# SMSC CONNECTIONS

group = smsc
smsc = at
smsc-id = VZW
modemtype = auto
device = /dev/ttyACM0
speed = 9600

# SMSBOX SETUP

group = smsbox
bearerbox-host = localhost
sendsms-port = 13013
global-sender = 13013
#sendsms-chars = "0123456789 +-"
#log-file = "/tmp/smsbox.log"
#log-level = 0
#access-log = "/tmp/access.log"

# SEND-SMS USERS

group = sendsms-user
username = tester
password = foobar
#user-deny-ip = ""
#user-allow-ip = ""

# SERVICES

group = sms-service
keyword = nop
text = "You asked nothing and I did it!"

# there should be default always

group = sms-service

It's pretty clear that the auto configure for the modem doesn't work. Any suggestions on where I should look or what I should do to get Kannel to properly talk to this card?
