I don't remebber the original, but this one definitely came through "moderator". Note the two "Delivered-To:" lines.

This is a message I sent as a test using the 'Reply All' button. I use Gmane to communicate with this group. The copy sent to the newsgroup "gmane.comp.openoffice.questions" was posted on Mon, 12 May 2008 10:35:23 -0600. The copy you receive on Wed, 14 May 2008 03:01:27 -0700 , which you copied below, was sent to "users@openoffice.org" at the same time. The delay in you receiving it is due to it having to go through the moderators which delays the posting of the message 24 to 48 or more hours.

I suspect the reason for you receiving two copies, one of which is delayed and moderated, is that people posting through gmane are accidentally using the 'Reply All' button instead of the 'Reply' button, thus sending their post to both "gmane.comp.openoffice.questions" and "users@openoffice.org". The one to gmane is injected immediately to the list (see Header - X-Injected-Via-Gmane: http://gmane.org/ ).The one is users goes through the moderator (see Header - Delivered-To: moderator for users@openoffice.org ) and is delayed getting to the list.

The two messages you forwarded from Bob Este would indicate that this is what he has done. They both have the same message ID - [EMAIL PROTECTED] . One was injected to the list by Gmane, the other went through the moderator.

Hello mike,

To muddy the waters further, I see some of Bob Estes' mail duplicated, some not. For example, the headers from a duplicated pair are appended. Same message-id and origination times. Hard to tell when they hit the list, but the final 'received' lines that seem to be associated with arrival at the list/moderators are diffferent.

I see Gmane is involved. Maybe Bob sent each message to the list, via
moderators, and also a copy to gmane.comp.openoffice.questions, not
realising that it's gated to the list.

The question remains, though; Why doesn't everyone see two copies?

I access this group through gmane. As a test I used 'Reply to All' to reply to this, sending the reply through gmane and to users@openoffice.org to see if both show up and if everyone gets both copies.
