My transcriptionist sends me Microsoft Word documents. When I open them, the paragraph numbering looks OK. We use roman numeral, then big letter, then arab numeral, then small letter (for example I, A, 1, a).

After making changes to the document and saving it in open office 2.1 for mac (tiger), the paragraph numbering changes to symbols (like alpha, beta, etc), so when I send it to my secretary and she opens it in Windows Microsoft Office, she gets it with this weird paragraph numbering.

I tried to go back and highlight the paragraph numbering, change it back to times new roman bold, and save the document. It looks like it saves it OK, but then when I open it again, it's back to symbols.

What can I do to make it stay in times new roman bold? Is there a default setting I can use?

I am puzzled.

Thanks.
