I'd like to point out three things about ApacheCon (and TomcatCon):

1. These conferences are for the community members, not for the
   committers. We don't just sit around patting ourselves on the back;
   the presenters are presenting material relevant to "normal users".

2. The presentations aren't just being given by committers or other
   "community leaders". 5/18 presentations are being given by
   non-committers discussing their own experiences, projects, etc.

3. The "hallway track" is often worth the price of admission. I get the
   best questions (and attendees often get the best answers) in the
   hallways between (and often during) presentations. If you want to get
   down and dirty on a topic with some of the people who have the
   greatest depth of knowledge in the community, this is where you can
   find them.

Plus there will be beer.

So that's four things. If you must be pedantic, you can skip the fourth.

No. But since catalina.out is only what is written to stdout is should
be mostly (ideally entirely) empty.

Aren't we currently still copying everything to STDOUT by default?

In logging.properties:

.handlers = 1catalina.org.apache.juli.AsyncFileHandler,
java.util.logging.ConsoleHandler

So once people switch this to production style config

.handlers = 1catalina.org.apache.juli.AsyncFileHandler

your statement would apply.

rotate catalina.out

2017-04-12 Thread shivashankar manukondu
Hi,

Do we have any default catalina.out
 rotation in the tomcat8
without using any external tool like Log4J or logrotate.

Also should not be loss any logs while rotating.
