I plan to keep my copy of the almanac. The only reason I bought it was
that I saw the metric article while browsing. However, I shall indeed
write the publisher to tell him/her/it that this was both my first, and
last, purchase of their product, and why this is so, perhaps appealing

This reminds me of something I saw in the store this morning. I went to a
local cheap discount store in our area called Marcs. Marcs sells over stock
items, discontinued items and everything else at low prices. As I was
scanning the aisles I noticed they had Vaseline Petroleum

This just goes to show everyone, that no matter where you go in the country
you will see the same attitudes. People may vary in their beliefs on
different subjects, but when it comes to what America is and who America's

This is not really the same thing. Americans who live in Europe or
elsewhere and have adopted local customs will eventually feel comfortable
with them. This does not apply to Americans who never leave the country, or
those that go overseas on bus tours. People who are chauffeured

The facts are in, Wine makes you smarter. So, drink more wine. And

Interesting note - I was on an upstate NY winery tour last weekend (Seneca
Lake - "Deck the Halls" weekend) and noticed the casks in the wineries were

"America is always right" (there is a lot of truth in what John wrote!)
reminds me of an article I read about how difficult is is for Americans to

Can anyone on the list tell me if there is a metric-to-English

I agree with Scott's observation (below) that our Florida election problems
can be viewed as a signal-to-noise ratio problem. In my earlier suggestion
that there is ALWAYS some error in ANY measurement or count, that error

This is an interesting measurement problem. According to the central
value theorem, if the process used to count is susceptible to random
errors, then the error ("noise") is some number times the square root of
the number counted. The question is, what number should that square root
