I think though that the tide of American products is quickly changing to
metric. Has anyone noticed that most mouthwash is now hard metric?

No, Bill, they weren't allowed to use calculators. Those few who knew that a
cubic foot is 1728 cubic inches presumably multiplied 12 x 144 by hand.
People seem to pride themselves on their ability to do useless arithmetic.

Saskatchewan wants to teach acres in the schools? Tell them that acres are
NEVER taught in US schools, because they are way too complicated! Do they
really want kids to spend time memorizing that an acre is 43560 ft3, 160
rd2, 10 ch2, 1/10 fur2, 100 000 li2, 4840 yd2, or 1/640 mi2? Sheesh!
Interesting that the cask sizes Nat saw are quite close to the traditional
US units, hogshead (238 L) and butt (477 L). I left those off my table
because I had assumed they were extinct. Why would the winery go to all the
trouble of using gallons when wine is sold by the liter?

As we've noted before, US authorities recently considered and rejected a
request to allow products to be labeled in centiliters. I believe their
argument was that it is a needless complexity that would confuse consumers.

As Gustaf notes, the centiliter would certainly be simpler for labels,

Worst of all are the standard 33cL sodacans that are measured as "330

Also, how do non-USA postal authorities figure letter/package rates

Gustaf,
The reason mL (or ml) is used in North America (in my opinion) is simply to make SI

Greg,
I would tend to connect this to the right wing conservatives in the Canadian

I have just learned that you are considering the return of Imperial measures
to Saskatchewan's classrooms.

Greg,
I think that I cannot send them a message; it could even backfire. They may
say: "What has that to do with you in Europe? Mind your own business!"
So I better tell you what I think. Can they do that legally? What does the
law say about the formal teaching of Imperial in Canadian schools?
