[USMA:10122] UK: (fwd) Compulsory Metrication

2000-12-31 Thread chris
Someone has responded to my Times letter, copying it to me: Metric measurement has been legal in this country for over a century. Many of us, the overwhelming majority in fact, do not wish to avail ourselves of its supposed advantages but prefer to muddle along with the inefficient imperial

2000-12-31 In responses seen in discussion groups, such as deja, it isn't enough that they can still use imperial, even though the measuring devices now show metric. Whenever it is pointed out to these people that they can still ask for imperial sizes, the response is never "I know", or "Yes,

Oh. However, the Mg IS true SI; the tonne (sometimes spelled ton) is a 'tag' (and a handy one) for the Mg [a bit like the litre - a convenient 'tag' for the dm^3; the hectare - a 'tag' for the hm^2] Duncan -Original Message- From: Gene Mechtly [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Duncan Bath

Are you sure the box showed "Kg," rather than "kg?" Procter and Gamble is usually more careful than that. Of course, some of us on this list (including me) would like to see D, H and K, rather than da, h and k, simply to be consistent with the other multiplier prefixes -- M, G, T, P, E, Z, Y.
