Someone has responded to my Times letter, copying it to me:
Metric measurement has been legal in this country for over a century. Many
of us, the overwhelming majority in fact, do not wish to avail ourselves of
its supposed advantages but prefer to muddle along with the inefficient

In responses seen in discussion groups, such as deja, it isn't enough that
they can still use imperial, even though the measuring devices now show
metric. Whenever it is pointed out to these people that they can still ask
for imperial sizes, the response is never "I know", or "Yes,
Thanks for those kind and generous words, Gene.

Good work, Jim! You have earned much of the credit for pressing JSC
to use SI in status reports intended for the public (for your physics

What about 7.5 Mg?
Duncan,
Forget Mg where there is almost no established traditional usage.
7.5 tons (where one ton is *defined* as 1000 kg) is much better for *large
multiples of the SI unit of mass (kg)*, in accord with established usage.

Dear Eugene,
Thank you for your message and your feedback on our SI practices and the

Oh.
However, the Mg IS true SI; the tonne (sometimes spelled ton) is a 'tag'
(and a handy one) for the Mg [a bit like the litre - a convenient 'tag' for
the dm^3; the hectare - a 'tag' for the hm^2]

The TABD has made much of allowing exports to the US to be allowed
dual-labelling. I thought I'd post an interesting observation.

Are you sure the box showed "Kg," rather than "kg?" Procter and Gamble is
usually more careful than that.
Of course, some of us on this list (including me) would like to see D, H and
K, rather than da, h and k, simply to be consistent with the other
multiplier prefixes -- M, G, T, P, E, Z, Y.
I can settle this debate.

Yesterday in a K-Mart (in Washington DC Metro) store I
saw the tide detergent box.
The Tide box says: 3kg
... just like that. Lower case, no space. Big letters.
wombat in small characters, below. 3kg big and readable. Wombat not.
I know, because as we speak I'm doing the laundry, and using that box.

Hi
Nat is correct. By 'Kg' I only meant to say metric
is in big font.
I made a mistake by writing 'Kg' instead of 'kg'.
