TRANSITION TO EURO SET TO BE PUT TO THE TEST
The European Commission is set to examine the ongoing transition of national currencies to the euro. All 12 nations that have adopted the single currency will present their stability plans to the commission. Later, the plans will be evaluated by ECOFIN. Initial results regarding the changeovers in Austria, Belgium, Finland, Holland, and Luxembourg will be made available on January 15, along with Sweden's plans to adopt the euro as well. The second report regarding Italy, Greece, Ireland, France, Germany, Spain and Portugal-the nations whose accounts are considered to be at risk-will be issued on January 30.
