Only last week, Neil Herron of the Metric Martyr's has had a letter in the Sunderland Echo essentially begging for funds!! They hope to raise in excess of £1000,000 towards the forthcoming appeal for themselves as well as four other traders, two from London and two from Cornwall!! At the last count of their funds, they had raised £200,000. Many sources believe they would have to raise at least £500,000 to fund this appeal!! I believe that there is a real possibility of this petering out because of lack of funds!! I also believe that many would rather give their money to more deserving causes like cancer research than to people who are fighting against a unit of measurement that has been taught almost exclusively in British schools for the past thirty years!!
