Page 6 of our May - June issue of Metric Today bottom left corner has  
a Malaysia postage stamp with article that focuses on an unusual gauge  
labeled km/J. The article writer proposes a possible explanation. It  
is really much more simple than the proposed guess. The j simply  
stands for jam, the Malaysian word for hour, according to

Act 1967, "The script of the national language shall be the Rumi  
[Latin] script: provided that this shall not prohibit the use of the  
Malay script, more commonly known as the Jawi script, of the national  
language.")
