If I ever get some time I'll have to write him a letter, I think his
grandmother and my grandmother were friends in the Bronx or some such thing. I
know my parents have met him.

Subject: [USMA:53619] Will the new Cosmos be metric?

I'm sure many here remember Carl Sagan's Cosmos from a few decades ago. The
series used metric almost exclusively, yet it was incredibly well received. Of
course it was made around the time when the US was still seriously considering
the transition.

Fast forward to 2014, and Neil deGrasse Tyson is the new host. While I'm sure
he will do a great job - he's essentially the Carl Sagan of our age, I doubt he
will use metric to any serious extent. The only book of his I had a chance to
read was almost completely USC. Rather than giving a quick intro to the metric
system and proceeding from there, he went to great lengths to keep it
customary. Moreover, the series is premiering on several networks, one of them
being National Geographic, so I'm not holding out much hope.
