where I had arrows.
My eventual goal is to have a crosshair encompassing the full width and
height of the screen - like a draftman's crosshair. I'll need to research
the expanded version, but it's good to know the crosshair part can be
easily done.

It's probably searching your $PATH and finding the touch
command-line tool, which is ancient and has nothing to do with touchscreens.
It updates the timestamps on a given file. man touch for more details.

pretty much any sample rate you feel like using, and dump it to any of
several different formats, including raw data.
Displaying it in pretty graphs and stuff is trickier, but shouldn't
require much in the way of scripting.
