There are more people on this list whose remember MS-DOS days :-) .
My config.sys contains himem.sys , but it only enables HMA AFAIR it is
64kb block after first 1Mb.
In order to enable UMB you have to install

I hope I'm not stepping on any toes here if I mention that due to the
availability of guest additions for dos, and win98, I run pc-dos7,
win3.0, and another vm with win95 under virtual pc 2007, and that
works for me very nicely. Maybe someone else
