Hello,
I am using TightVNC connect from sunbox to
sunbox. The remote VNC server is 24-bit
true color, while the local machine's
display has 6 visuals, one of which is
24-bit true color. When I try to start
the vncviewer with -truecolor, it always
says that it is using 8-bit pseudocolor.

Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone knew if the following is currently possible either with VNC
as is, or via a seperate addon/program:
What I am after is a call back feature of sorts. My company does software support
and we have quite a number of small clients. Often these clients ring us for

them have a static IP address. So to help, we have to work out what

Should be a totally different scope, not just an other netmask, also an
other network. Then the routers can do a lot for you, now you only have

Agreed. There is still the question of why it doesn't work
after changing
the subnet mask to be the same. It is really a TCP/IP
problem, not a VNC
one. Waiting on the results of the ping
I know exactly what you mean.
On your side, (assuming you're using Windows) run
vncviewer -listen
You'll have a red vnc icon in the system tray, you probably want to go ahead and
right-click this, choose properties, set it to 8-bit. (I can't seem to get it to do it

Hi!
I guess this is a pretty common error, but I am new so go easy on me ;-)
We have a group of users who have set up a script to start several VNC
servers on a Sunblade. When the system, starts a number of these servers

Jim,
What I do is set up each machine (server) as a different display number: 1, 2, 3
Then I set port forwarding to the appropriate machine (assumes you're using the
browser...
exclude the 58xx if not):
display 1 needs 5801 and 5901
display 2 needs 5802 and 5902
display 3 needs 5803 and 5903
Yes, if you have a static IP (or at least a static dns-resolvable name) you could give
them a batch file with:
winvnc -connect yourip
(following is from the WinVNC documentation)
-connect host
Tells a running copy of WinVNC to initiate an outgoing connection to a listening
viewer running
Make sure that you have fowarded the correct prots.
When i did my fowarding I could remeber if VNC used 1 port up or down so..
My fowarding setting is 5899 to 5901 try that.

why not put all vnc related files (duh, just 3 files) in the %systemroot% ?
start, run and there we go!
i'm using something like that,
with my DNS already in the 'outgoing' connection window,
some parts disabled, my own icon on the tray,
and translated it on the fly to Dutch...

hehe, no but that is cool. :) I had to rewrite a few parts for use here at work, but
it never occured to me to go ahead and put my ip address in the Connect new client
box so the customer has less to type. Or hell just add a menu item to the right-click
menu that says Connect to Support.
Hey all, I am running vnc 3.3 on AIX 4.3. I have it running on a few of
