Subject: R: VNCserver connecting problem
Thank for your reply, Livio,
hereunder,
If I understand your network configuration, you are trying to remote access
PC1 (192.168.0.2 - VNCServer) from PC2 (192.168.0.200 - VNCViewer) by means
of a dial - up ISDN connection set up
Dear Ken:
I would try to install VNC-Server 4.0 b4 because it stores in the
Application event log the attempted connections from a viewer. I think this
would help diagnose your problem.

Thanks all for the replies.
I found that restricting to 8 bit on the client improved response times
noticeably.
(The windows polling options were already as recommended)
Changing the display effects from fade-effect to scroll-effect made some
improvements to displaying the context menu options
Hello,
I have been testing the latest realvnc4 beta release and I've been looking in
the windows register, now the keys are under RealVNC (not ORL) but with the
exception that now you can't disable local events.
Somebody told me that now the new version monitorizes the register but I can't

Bruno,
VNC 4b4 can be installed alongside VNC 3.3.7 - you just need to ensure that
you configure them to run on different ports. So you can use VNC 3 to get
in to the server, install VNC 4 on a different port, then connect in via VNC
4 and remove VNC 3. :)
Cheers,
Wez @ RealVNC Ltd.
Alejandro,
Disabling of local pointer mouse events will be available in the next
release.
Neither the VNC 3.3.7 nor VNC 4 releases use CORBA.
Cheers,
Wez @ RealVNC Ltd.

Hi
I never get an answer, but here goes again...
Are we ever going to see a beta 5 of vnc 4? I ask as I am still waiting for
the stuff you stripped out of 3.3.7. Like, Force refresh, lock on exit,
disable local mouse and keyboard. etc. Don't get me wrong, I love v4b4 but
as a system
You're comparing uncomparables.
TS (like XWindows) allows several users to work in the same server at the same
time. The thing that VNC isn't supposed to do.
OTOH, VNC allows you to see the console of any machine. So for an admin, they
don't have to transform
I would say VNC and TS aren't necessarily competing
with each other but they could be complement to each other.
Imagine this: you could run VNC inside a TS session so a
Macintosh user can work using Windows environment (provided
the session isn't disconnected).
What you're

TS uses a protocoll called RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol). Windows XP
RDP2VNC? I don't know what it is, but can't it solve the WinXP problem that
another user is having (in another thread) while using Remote Desktop?

I've never used XP's remote assistance function.
But are you sure it's not the same as using machine_name /console
for Win2003 TS servers?
Nope I don't know that...
Since I don't know windows 2003 server.
I do know:
the same client can connect to TS-Server, and windows-xp remote

I'm sorry, let me clarify. I basically meant how much bandwidth it takes up.
Thank you.

Subject: Anybody know the approximate bandwidth of VNC?
Just wondering if
can't someone help me with the last steps of setting this up?
I've read the FAQI've used the webprogram whois' to find out my work machine's
default ISP gateway and pc addy. I've found the place to put in port forwarding. My
question(s);
1- Does VNC use TCP_UDP protocol? or something else?
The VNC protocol adapts to the available bandwidth, so VNC cannot be said to
take up bandwidth. If there is little bandwidth available then VNC will
simply send updates less frequently. The Auto Select functionality in the
viewers allows them to pick the most suitable colour and encoding
My configuration is as follows:
Remote server (PC running XP) with VNC server running on it.
A belkin wireless ADSL router with built in firewall at home with a dynamic IP
address
3 PCs running 2000 and XP with wireless access going into the router allocated
IP addresses using DHCP. I am using

1- Does VNC use TCP_UDP protocol? or something else?
It uses TCP.
2- Is the port 59+ the ID # I set up on the client (my home) machine?
When you run the viewer, you must specify the name or IP address of the
Hi,
I installed the latest copy of VNC Server on a windows2k server in the
Lab. If I have not logged into the win2k machine
and try to vnc over it gives me a authentication failed error. If I go
in the lab and plug a keyboard and mouse and login directly
and then try to vnc over it works
Hi VNC gang - I hope someone can help. I'm stuck:
I've set up a VNC server on a Windows box before, so that
someone remote can see what I'm doing (or control my mouse)
on my Windows box.
It's been working fine for a year with realvnc.
Now I'm trying to do the same thing in Linux/KDE.
