This is an odd error - it sounds like it's on the X side rather than the VNC
side of Xvnc. I've built Xvnc with XFree 4.3.0 on older linux platforms
and had it work perfectly so it's a bit of a mystery.
The fact that xterm is getting a BadValue error from CreatePixmap with value

I needed this patch to compile VNC 4.0 Beta 3 on some platforms.

I'm also seeing the BadValue errors when trying to start clients.
Xvfb from the same build tree is fine. Here is the xdpyinfo output
for the Xvnc display:
name of display::3.0
version number:11.0
vendor string:The XFree86 Project, Inc
vendor release number:4030

Incidentally, if I set my xstartup to run GNOME, I get this error in
the output:
(gnome-session:9690): Gdk-WARNING **: The X server advertises that
RENDER support is present,
but fails to supply the necessary pixmap support. In
other words, it is buggy.
Could that be relevant?

Hello,
I've just installed the most recent version of VNC on a PC under Redhat
Linux 9. I started the server and tried to connect to it from a VNC client
under Windows 2000. The client connects itself successfully, but the sreen
doesn't display the KDE interface : it displays a command line

Simple question... The VNC Connection Details window that is used to
enter an ip address and port contains a history of previously entered ip

Can you get xdpyinfo to tell you anything

My output is identical to the one Tim sent to the list.
Another thing you
might try is to run the Xvfb executable which should also have been built
alongside Xvnc,

Or perhaps you might want to try SmartCode VNC Manager. It has built-in

I am looking for a version that will run correctly on the iPAQ 3970 which
runs Pocket Windows 2002 (Windows CE 3.0) on an Intel PXA250 processor. So
far, all of the places I have found do not run on this platform. Is there,
or will there soon be, a version for this platform?
Respectfully yours,

Hi,
I am having problems compiling VNC on Solaris 8.
Here is a tail of the output. site.def has 'HasGcc2 = YES' part commented out.
This doesn't occur until well into the compilation.

Just to have all the information in one email, here is what I tried
tonight.
The binaries were built unpacking XFree86-4.3.0.tar.gz over the xc
directory from vnc-4.0b3-unixsrc.tar.gz, and then applying xc.patch
with 'patch -p0 -i xc.patch'. Here is the %build part of the spec
file I used:

Heya...
Something I found out which may be the issue is that the vnc
servers I am trying to connect to behind the firewall are using the
same IP addressing I am using from my home LAN which could be the
issue. Both sites are using 192.168.1. addressing. So when I try to go

Well I got the VNC source and edited and recompiled it. Tray icon does
not show up, and all messageboxes have been suppressed. Everything works
as usual (I think) except for those things. All command line switches
used will do what they are

I think this might be a case of too much snipping, but huh? Could you
elaborate?
