Re: Starting Introduction to Contributing to Apache OpenOffice Module

2022-04-25 Thread Peter Kovacs

Hi alejandro,

Yes the list block is on purpose. If you want to help this is great. But
we are not able to finance you.

In order to contribute I would subscribe to dev mailinglist instead of
volunteer or recruitment.

Next step is to make familiar with where we need help. We have in
general 4 branches where we need volunteers.

1) documentation of the software - requires writing skills

2) translation libraries - requires to know english and some language
you want to translate too. (The translation is done in a web tool named
pootle)

3) web development / maintaining our web infrastructure - you may need
php skills here, and we look into containerization
4) maintaining Apache OpenOffice itself - you need programming skills.
Depending on which bug you tackle C, C++, perl, python, java, assembler
skills are asked for.

In order to set you up, Which line does interest you? If you do not have
the skills you need to build them, but you would still be able to help.
It is just harder for you ;)

All the best

Peter

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the interest in OpenOffice.

If you are interested in contributing, I suggest to start step by step.

I think the best way is to familiarize with our setup. We offer a github
[1] presence which makes it easy to access.

Try to sync the code from there. to your system.

And as a next step try to understand how to build OpenOffice from source.

I recommend our wiki guide [2] and Arrigos presentation [3] for starters.

If you have questions or need help please ask.

All the best

Peter

Re: Starting Introduction to Contributing to Apache OpenOffice Module

2021-06-26 Thread Peter Kovacs

Hi Dineth,

We have following issues we need to look at (without poriorization, they
are in some aspect all important):

# Fixing bugs

- Here we have especially a short coming on windows.

- We a have a special bugger code that leads to destroy files.

# Update to ODF 1.3 Std.

# Update SDKs for Windows

# Windows 64 Bit

# Move Code to Apple Silicon, and look at Rasperry pie version (Main
issue is here a piece of code which looks at ABI code)

# replace make file (dmake, gmake with SCON approach)

# update dependencies.

# update code to c++11 standard (we need a strategy here, so that is a
bit complicated topic)

# integrate diverse patches (they need to be checked, too).

# testing and reviewing Pull request on github.

My recommendation is to look at the build process and understanding that
first. at least a little. If you have Windows get in touch with dev -
Mailing list and ask for help since you need a outdated SDK.

If you have more questions I can go into details. OpenOffice is a huge,
long living code base. It takes some effort to get into the whole code.

All the best

Peter
