Try appending each of two kernel parameters at grub prompt to test:
1. all_generic_ide
2. ide=nodma

I have a problem with an 2.5 IDE HDD on Voyage Linux running on a Alix2c2
board. The TinyBIOS on the alix board recognize the HDD with correct geometry
and label. It also attaches as a slave drive, since my compact flash card is
the master, carrying Voyage Linux. The booting starts from
