thanks to Volker Merschmann, I was made aware that bots seem to join our
wiki again.
I have just updated the wiki to the recent version, switching to the
release branch instead of the wmf one, and also created a new round of
captcha questions, hopefully not too complicated. :-)

that indeed is a bug, but I have no workaround at hand. :-( I guess it's
a problem with the extension which is hopefully solved with the upgrade
to 1.19.
