Re: [libreoffice-website] NabblePage - now possible to specify a different list to display initially

2011-02-09 Thread Daniel A. Rodriguez

 Hi *,

The nabble page type now allows to enter a custom Nabble forum/list ID
 to display initially.

 Enter *only the number*

For example for the greek user list you would enter
 1816769
for the greek list overview, you would enter
 1816757

You find that ID by just looking at the link target in the
nabble-interface, for example the Greek Category has the following
 link:
 http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/Greek-f1816757.html;cid=…

Geek discuss list has following URL.
 http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/Discuss-f1816762.html;cid=…

thus the ID to enter in the CMS would be 1816762

When the field is left empty, the english user list is shown by default.

Thanks, great work

Old: For tax-deductibility outside Germany, please contact your local tax

New: According to a decision by the European Court of Justice, it should be
possible to deduct your donations to the German non-profit association from
your national taxes, even if you live in another country within the European
Union. For more information refer to http://www.givingineurope.org and

Can someone translate it for the Spanish and German pages?

Re: [libreoffice-website] download libreoffice

2011-02-23 Thread Daniel A. Rodriguez
2011/2/23 Matt Sturgeon mtt...@gmail.com:
Are you suggestingh creating repositories for Linux packages (RPM and
.deb)? If so that is a very good idea.
A simple pair deb and RPM repositories will keep users (who like to
run LibreOffice as distributed by The Document Foundation, rather than
their distro) up to date, because their computer syncs with the
repository and downloads the package with the highest version number.

I propose the following set of repositories:

  RPM | DEB
 nightly| nightly
beta | beta   --- And RCs
 stable | stable

They use standard HTTP so the repo can be anywhere on a TDF webserver,

 Text on RPM yum repository:
 http://serverfault.com/questions/38813/tools-for-maintaining-yum-repositories
Slightly more formal guide for deb APT repo:

Re: [libreoffice-website] changes to Challenge website

2011-02-25 Thread Daniel A. Rodriguez
 - changed website title to LibreOffice Fundraising Challenge
 - changed website slogan to Donate for the Foundation

cannot achieve that

 - changed starting page description meta tag to Join the Fundraising
 Challenge of The Document Foundation.
 - replaced the Press Release on the page with today's one
 - removed the first three paragraphs from the Donate page and changed the
next sentence to All donations will be fed directly into the future
foundation's budget to cover operating expenses.
 - replaced the Why page with the FAQ contents of
 http://blog.documentfoundation.org/2011/02/23/you-are-our-rockstars/;
changed What are the next steps? a bit; changed the page title to Why?
 - changed the text of the Welcome page
- For some corporations, investing into the capital stock of a
Foundation is not as easy as supporting the Foundation’s daily
business, so we do expect a larger support also in terms of donations,
as soon as the capital stock has been collected and the Foundation is
set up. = For some corporations, investing into the capital stock of
a Foundation is not as easy as supporting the Foundation’s daily
business.
- and only if that failed (which it most probably did not, thanks to
the help of our rockstars!), the United Kingdom would have been an
alternative. = removed

everything else is done

I think this was mentioned somewhere before. Would it not make more sense to
have the language names showing on the Challenge site in their own localised
names? French = Français; German = Deutch; etc.

Should we change them? Is so, they should still be in alphabetical order.

I think that change would be appreciated.

Well, as there were a couple of people with php knowledge, why not
jump in and write up a corresponding rss-feed as a start?

This is pretty trivial, in fact creating a rss feed is part of the
 documentation/tutorials on the silverstripe site:
 http://doc.silverstripe.org/sapphire/en/tutorials/2-extending-a-basic-site#creating-a-rss-feed
 http://doc.silverstripe.org/sapphire/en/reference/rssfeed

I could create a VirtualBox Image for local use or grant access to the
vm running on pumbaa.documentfoundation.org:7780 - just tell me what
you'd like to get things going.

It's about time to get people more involved in the technical stuff,
there are so many ideas, but time is so limited... So don't be afraid
 of anything...

I just noticed that there is no RSS feed, so I'd like to 'play' with this stuff

While I am not developer Seems pretty trivial, as Christian says

Re: [libreoffice-website] [wiki] template for structure

2011-03-13 Thread Daniel A. Rodriguez

 Hi all,
I will start some new discussions about our wiki.
 The first:
On German-discuss-ml there were some discussions that it is not easy for
newbies to find the right information on the localized pages of the wiki.
The left sidebar won't give the right information for the localized teams.

Christian Kühl has made a menubar for the German part of the wiki pages and
therefor several templates to get a unique menubar. See e.g [1].
It should give the wikipages some structure especially for the newbies.
He made a main template [2] and several sub templates e.g. [3] [4].

On the German-ml there is a kind of consense to use it.
What do you think to make it for all wiki pages?

 Grüße
 k-j

 [1] http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Main_Page/de
 [2] http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Template:DE.Menu
 [3] http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Template:DE.Menu.Start
 [4] http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Template:DE.Menu.Doku

I think that's a great idea.

Re: [libreoffice-website] [wiki] Link to website and vv

2011-03-13 Thread Daniel A. Rodriguez
 Hi,
 the second discussion:
On the German-discuss-ml there was a discussion about a good link from the
website to the wiki and vice versa not only somewhere in the text but
 visible for all [1].
Such a link should bring the user to the wiki or to the website.
On the website we/I made a link in the second menubar [2]. This point was
discussed controverse by the members of the German-ml.
The point which is a sight worse is that a user who came from the localized
website to the (localized) wiki won't find back so easy.
The first ideas were to make a menubar like [3].
If we do such a menubar, would we put it
in front of the text: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/User:K-j/sv

In front would be better considering pages with long text entries.
Maybe the color scheme should be a little different from the menu on the
wiki and 'return to the site' for the user to identify each menu or to
associate with a specific color scheme.
And, indeed, should be located.

 I think it's because you're using this template {{OrigLang|}}
You should use only {{Lang|}} because otherwise it's the original language
 (EN) category that is shown.

It's strange, I don't see where it takes the EN category now, but I'm
not a wiki expert, so may be others will have a better idea.

I'm no expert in the wiki but the problem was:
 [[Category:ES/Templates|Menubar]]
and Menubar is the English category. I have changed it now in
[Category:ES/Templates|barra_de_menu]] and it works. Maybe you take an other
name for the category. My Spanish isn't worth to talk about.

@Daniel: I have commented off the {{Lang|}} because in the localized
templates the Lang template makes no sense. You can't link from this place
 to the other menus.

ok, didn't catch the idea

@Daniel, all: Maybe we should make Menu/es and not ES.Menu because then we
can go from the Menu-template to Menu/es. The same with Menu.Sub_Menu/es
 like Menu.QA/es.

I was a little confused about that, my first attemp was Menu/es and I think
that's the best way.

I'm not able to do such test today, because I catched a cold. But I have
 seen a nice
site and a CMS with a product behind it:
  http://www.pythonbrasil.org.br/

 Nice!

What I did earlier was to review a few on-line (hosted) solutions, as I
though that might make sense from a 'do it now' stand point, though I
doubt it would be a solution looked on with favor by most here.

Some are module(s) to a full CMS (Drupal [1], WP [2], etc)
[SilverStripe does not have a 'conference' module in the repository, but
looking at what modules and widgets are available it is not much of a
stretch to see how one might go about constructing a SilverStripe
solution, with a minimal amount of custom coding required]

Those that build on web frameworks (a small selection)
  - web2py [3]
  - Dijango [4a]
  - Ruby [5]

On in good old php [6]

A few of the packages hail from the folks behind specific conferences -
 i.e.

SCALE [4b] built their own which they have released under GPL. (Dijango
 again)

Anyway there are more. I don't mind collecting information on those
listed and some of the others and building a type of cross reference for
features, etc. Could load it up the wiki as spreadsheet perhaps.

 //drew

Would be nice to have such site / tool for our next conference ;-)

What I was missing the most is an way to easily edit and make changes
to the program. Also an easy way to retrieve the subscribers list.

I think that is one of the key features of a conference organizing tool.

   Component: WWW
 Product: LibreOffice

  Created attachment 73257
-- https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=73257action=edit
  Mock-up for LibreOffic download website

There are 4 attached mock-ups in order to get an impression of the
proposed
  enhancements in this report.

  ---

[A] Some months ago a user complaints about the LibreOffice download
page
(https://www.libreoffice.org/download/) on the German discuss mailing
  list. He
wrongly downloaded the BitTorrent download file (… .msi.torrent) and not
  the
standard file (.. .msi) for the Windows installation. So the
installation
  failed.

The reason for this problem is an unclear display of the green download
  button.
I would expect that I can click somewhere on this button and the
download
starts. But I have to click on “Main installer”. A user normally does
not
expect that there are three links (Main installer, Torrent, Info) inside
  the
  download button.

Furthermore the link “Info” inside the download button is misleading. I
  would
expect more informations about LibreOffice or how to install
LibreOffice.
  But
what do I get? A list of hashes and mirror servers in English and not in
  my own
language. To my opinion a normal user does not understand these lists
and
  can't
  do anything with it.

Proposal in order to avoid the mentioned problems (see also attached
file
  “Mockup DL 1.odg”):

[1] Additional buttons for BitTorrent download. Name buttons with
“Standard
  Download” and “BitTorrent Download”.
[2] Clicking somewhere on the buttons starts the download.
[3] Insert a link “More download informations” or “Download Hints” or
  similar
to the download page (not in the download buttons!). On the page linked
  to, it
should be first described (in different languages on different pages)
how
hashes and mirrors can be used. The links to the hash and mirror list
  should be
  inserted on the linked page.

[B] Some other discussion points and proposals according the download
page
  (see
  also “Mockup DL 1.odg”):

[1] To my opinion this page is directed primarily towards users and not
  towards
developers. So the downloads of the SDK and the source code should be
  moved to
  the developers site (https://www.libreoffice.org/developers-2/). I'm
sure
  a
developer who seriously wants to participate will find them. The links
  under
“Handy resources” then can be moved to the free place.

[2] Rename heading “Packages” to “Other Download Packages”. For a user
this
makes more clear, that the downloads below are alternatives and are not
  needed
  additionally.

[3] Insert a link to the extensions and templates site
(http://extensions.libreoffice.org) with a short explanation on the
  download
  page.

[4] Insert a link to the “Get Help” page
  (https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help).

[5] Provide a link to the installation instruction
  (https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/installation).

[6] In order to do not clutter up the download site to much, the
donation
  hint
could be removed. Possibly it is better to display a donation dialogue
at
  the
end of the LibreOffice installation. With such a proceeding you can also
  reach
people who get their LibreOffice from other sources than the download
page.
(Hint is not removed from mock-ups yet.)

  -

[C] Another design possibility: The BitTorrent download buttons can be
  placed
below the heading “Other Download Packages” (see attached file “Mockup
DL
  2.dwg”)

  --

[D] In the past there have been some discussions in order to improve the
download site according different versions of LibreOffice. Especially
if a
version is still in the early adopter phase users complained about
  problems.
  See:
  (German site: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/DE/LODownload)

It seemed to me, that this is also the reason, that some localisation
teams
still offer 2 LibreOffice versions on their download page (e.g. see

  French,

Indeed, we're all looking forward to using our new hardware ... :)

I think, on the other hand, integration between Pootle and SS would
be a way to maintain consistency between website and documentation
  contents.

Yes it certainly would have advantages, but then all the subsites would
have to follow structure and content of the main page as a source for
 translation, wouldn't they?

This idea was given up in the very early days of using this CMS in
favour of independent native language team needs and creativity.

Now you mention that, it's completely understandable.

 Hello,

unfortunately, I have some bad news to share - I did not manage to
 transfer the website today.

Murphy hit me several times: Yesterday, for several hours, broadband was
broke almost everywhere in southern Germany, then today, bilbo's SSD had
a crash and needed a replacement (mail downloads were down), which
then took much longer than usually. Plus, we had to cope with high load
on kermit again - in other words: two days of chaos, and totally
disrupted schedule. Although I worked until 0130 last night, the backlog
was just too high to be ready in time today. And the more I dig, the
more I find undocumented stuff that I have to first find out and
properly document to transfer it to the new machine. It's an extremely
 tedious task...

The good news is that everything is prepared for transferring sites: web
and mail server is ready, DNS TTL is set to 5 minutes for an easy
switch, and tomorrow, Christian, Alex and I will meet here onsite to
 work realtime on the system.

I did not manage at all to have a look at the new proposed website
design, so I cannot promise it will be live in time, because I simply
 lack any insight so far.

We will decide tomorrow, based on what is going on, what we can migrate
and what not, and which steps to take to ensure proper operations during
the 4.0 release. If possible, my plan would be to migrate the wiki and
the web site in parallel to cope with the high load. If this goes well,
we still can embed the new website content, either into Silverstripe or
statically. As Christian is here, and we have a fast connection between
the servers, I'm positive, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Sorry for this mess, but when everything around breaks, you're sometimes
 out of luck...

Let's keep our fingers crossed all goes well. :-)

Hey Florian don't get discouraged, we will get through this release and
will the organization as a whole will come out stronger and better then
 before :)

As there is quite a bit of text, I'm not sure whether it is better to

texts, similar to how the strings on the download and donate pages are
 translated...

Since translation will only affect certain strings I think the second

It comes from the template, that puts the page title into a heading.

I changed the template so that the header is only inserted when the
 title is non-empty.

But note that the title of a page is also used in the html-title

You don't need to be admin to do this - just open the page above in
your browser, let it display the sourcecode, search for »typ« to find
 the div class=typography

And copy the text after the heading (hat is automatically added based
on the page title) till above the footer. (before the closing /div
that starts at the beginning of the line.

Then paste that into the HTML-code editing view of the backend (i.e.
click the html button in the editor and paste there, not directly
 into the WYSIWYG part).

yes, I already did

Re: [libreoffice-website] NL Donate sites -- broken PhotoShuffler fix

2013-03-29 Thread Daniel A. Rodriguez
2013/3/29 Marc Paré m...@marcpare.com

Sorry for hijacking the subject line. -- Marc

I also notice that there seems to be the same thing happening on most of
the nl donate sites. I suspect the removal of the photos from their
original locations may have caused this or if there was a recent change in
the code for the Photo-Shuffler. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be
anyway of finding out on SilverStripe how/why/what caused the problem other
than either the code changed for PhotoShuffler or the image file/names
changed or were deleted. :-(

I am not sure if the nl donate site admins had their own photos on their
site or if they just used the same photos as the EN-international site.

I can go around and fix the empty photo tags that are causing these
hiccups BUT it would be better if the nl donate site admins did this on
their own. If I go around and fix the nl donate sites, the nl donate site
admins will who have not read this post/thread will most likely be upset.
But on the other hand, our donate nl sites will be working correctly.

 To fix:

 * log in as admin
 * choose your language site in the Translations tab
 * once on your nl donate page make sure that you are on the Start page
 * choose the Photo Shuffle tab
 * you will now see all the photos on your Photo Shuffler, the blank pages
are the photos that have disappeared
 * pass your mouse cursor on the blank page and you will see a trash can
 * click on the trash can to remove the blank pages

If you want to add photos that have already been uploaded to the donate
site:

 * choose Add Image Resource
 * a popup window will appear
 * choose Choose existing tab
 * choose Select folder then assets/PhotoShufflerImages
 * you will be shown all the photos in this folder and just tag the images
that you want to appear on your shuffler. I have tried to label the photos
with the country-code in the name.

If you want to add your own photos:

 * click on Files and Images
 * create your own folder
 * upload your photos
 * go back to Pages and add the photos that you uploaded to the
PhotoShuffler

Let me know if you need any help with this.

 Cheers,

Hi Marc

I've tried to delete those blank pages twice but still there. Also tried to
delete a few of them and then save the page, but the result is the same.

I explained it in reply to Sophie's mail.. But here the short version:

add dl meta-keyword to the pages you want to always appear in the
 Handy Resources.
add dlver-4.1.0 for pages that you only want to show for a specific
version (the version doesn't need to be full, so dlver-4 would apply
 to all 4.x.y versions
add dltype-rpm-x86 to add that page only when the selected type is
rpm-x66, again the type doesn't have to be complete - dltype-rpm
would apply to both the x86 as well as the x86_64 version.

Note that the list of related pages is cached, so it might take 10
minutes or so for newly tagged pages to appear.

Thanks Christian

I'd like to collect your feedback on one specific areas which will

I would not exactly call the top menus of the present website my

confusing. The Get Help - Get Involved - Developers suite strikes
me as unclear, especially for the pages it's leading too (note: I
don't mind redundancy in content, but not so much for top menus).

Here's a very first and rough ideas of the top menus I'm thinking
   about. Please comment:

   - Home
   - The Suite
   - Download
   - Get Help -Support (pardon the unclear title)
   - Community
   - Events
   - About

   What do you think?

What about 'discover it' instead of 'The Suite'? Since this is
  LibreOffice main site.

First, thanks for your input. What you guys are both hinting at -and
we'll see that with the users survey later this weekend- is not so much
an access to our community infrastructure (mailing lists, git repo,
etc.) and a standard product page that an articulation of content
that's aimed to the end users - and even more precisely at the new or
 potential end users.

My question then would be twofold:
 - should we have an overlay of pages (like we have right now, if you
simply go to libreoffice.org) presenting the discover it as well as
the get involved aspects on top of the static homepage?
 - should the Get Involved section or top menu be actually different
from anything that could fall under the community section?

My feeling -it's only my opinion- would be that whatever we do for
anything like these sections and the homepage, we do it with the new
or potential users in mind. In other terms we ought to be targetting
 the:
 - potential user, who can be anything between a total newbie up to a
rather experienced user of MS Office or any other suite
 - a new user or just a user who might as well be tempted in joining the
   community and get involved.

In this sense we have a recurring theme when it comes to the future
content and its presentation. More specialized parts of our infra ought
to be accessed from these menus or from places like the download section
and the About section.

 What do you think?

What about defining sections? As mentioned in another thread, maybe we
could have a main area, with translatable content, surrounded by NL teams
own info and advanced users section.

nice marketing materials we can come up with in terms of software
comparison: LibreOffice vs MS Office. Granted, we may not have the
   last one ready.

 Hello,

We currently have a rather nice look set of pages presenting
LibreOffice applications and other improvements from the 4.x branch
 (http://www.libreoffice.org/home/Discover)

They look nice but I was wondering whether in the next version we ought
to scrap them completely even if we'd reuse some of these ideas, for
instance in the Discover the Suite top section.

What do people think? Should we take these pages away in the next
version and add similar pages for major announcements (as it was
 intended primarily)?

I think we should, particularly when we think the end user. Maybe
an slider with one or two lines per slide with an image showing key
features.

 Hi all,

Our next bug hunting session will be held between 6 and 8 December. As
last time, can someone add an image (see
 https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/BugHunting_Session_4.2.0) to our
libreoffice.org website banner to promote this action?

 Kind regards,

I've used some material from brazilian community to prepare a couple of
flyers about LibreOffice upcoming Bug Hunting Session in spanish, pt-br and
english (each language is in its own layer).

Feel free to use.

 Hi,

If you have ever gone to wordpress.org, you have seen a very useful
language selection feature. Whenever your browser declares support of
languages other than English, then you will see a tiny prompt that says:

*Wordpress is also available in 'YOUR LANGUAGE'.*

I think it is a good idea to have something like that in the main pages of
www.libreoffice.org. It will help people to find out Libreoffice also
 speaks in their language!

 Hello Tim,

You may either create a new page on the wiki or upload all the calendars
on Owncloud. If you would like to do the latter please let me know and we
will give you the upload access.

 Cheers,

 Charles.

I'd like to upload an spanish version, may I have upload access too?

I was thinking about a gathering place where all of the calendars and
such could be placed.

I am not good at making a new Wiki page, and do not know which page it
should a referenced from either.

If someone starts the wiki page, then I know how to go from there.

What I really was thinking was having one place where all the calendars,
and other document ideas like , could have a single place where our users
could go to and find their needed items. I hate to bring up MS, but there
you can see all of the different calendars side by side with thumbnails
showing the user what each calendar looks like and directs you to a
download page. I think having a table of thumbnail images of these newly
created calendars, plus info text, and download page links, would be a good
thing for us. All of the calendars could be in one place and our suers
could look at them and choose which one[s] they want to download.

Having an ownCloud account would be nice, but that does not solve the
problem of showing our users what is available for them to use.

Since these are finished documents, and not templates, I do not think
they would work in the template and extension center area[s] that already
established. That is why I was thinking about a wiki page, or something
like that.

Well, Tim has a point here indeed

Creating a new account won't be necessary, I'll copy the users from
 the current page.

The way the site is built is not subsite-friendly yet (i.e. some
elements use hardcoded URLs instead of referencing another page) and
 things like that.

I'll then also copy the content of the english site over to ease
 recreating the site.

(I assume that we keep the NL-pages as it currently is, i.e. not
translations of the english page, but separate subdomains with maybe
completely different content? Or do people prefer to just translate
like it is done for the donate domain for example. (i.e. the same page
 is available in different langauges?)

IMHO separate subdomains is the right choice

 Hi all,

So most of the writing is done, I'll only add some details and correct
 my typos now :)

https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/NewWebsiteNLT#New_design_website_localization

Some issues:

* I'm getting this error when publishing:
'0.00' no es un número, sólo números pueden ser aceptados para este campo,
'0.00' no es un número, sólo números pueden ser aceptados para este campo.

Change the value for a 0 'fix' the error by the way

* When Trying to translate Discover page, SS redirects to What's
LibreOffice subpage

* IMHO we should discuss website's related stuff in the specific list
