For small and simple wikis shared hosting is still the best option:
*it's cheap
*it's easy to mantain
*it can become pretty fast
IMHO shared hosting support shouldn't be dropped.

If anyone on this list is currently running mediawiki on a shared hosting
platform, I would really like to hear from you on that topic,
I once ran mw 1.19 in 2013 or before under the shared hosting service,
since at that moment I was fully n00b about git, php(I'm still newbie when
it comes to coding), and mariadb/mysql.
Not everybody who is using mediawiki is tech-savvy like they know how to
execute shell commands, how to secure
