AA under linux is not app-dependant afaik. It's driver dependant, so you'll
have to setup your graphics

If changing the fsaa setting in hl2 changes anything that is just
imagination - it doesn't do anything yet, the multisample setting is just
ignored right now.
I've not changed the FSAA setting trough the game options. I've forced it on a
lower level, that is on the graphics card driver

install recommends as well (aptitude does this), what would be those
many other packages that are essential for a full featured wine?

Sure there are tools out there that crackers use
that read the mbr and store it in a file, so that they can circumvent the
copy protection, but that has nothing to do with wine.
