I had thought of doing that. I thought someone would have fine-tuned the
process. Seems like quite a few command line calls for this purpose, if it
was included in Wix.target, it could be useful since it looks like very
common to many deployments.

Unfortunately, it is not likely VS2010 will have any support that isn't already
in WiX v3.

You need to create an MSBuild
I have gone through the WIX examples on creating msp file and it works great.

and different configurations scheduled to build using TFS Team Build service
