Pat, you absolutely CAN run wp locally on your windows vista basic machine.
Download WAMPserver, http://www.wampserver.com/en/ install it, and you get

caused by a Quicktags js error. You guys must also be getting a JS
error of some kind.
I have tried to trace this but I still don't see where Quicktags comes
into the Dashboard but it is being loaded and being loaded by WP...

XAMPP for Windows works amazingly well on a Windows machine and it's

I can confirm slowness with 2.7, been running the default theme for a
while now too. All plugins seem fine as well. It's not the front-end
that's slow, its when logging into and loading the admin control panel.
There is one thing though, that hasn't been applied since moving hosts,

Okay, now this is getting a bit odd.
I install 2.6.3. Runs fine, copied theme, did the upgrade, and still RUNS
FINE!
Now why won't it do that the stupid remote shared server?!?!

and rename it to wp-config.php? (in other words, replacing your old

point out the too many PHP notices I'm seeing all overt WP 2.7. It's
been this way for many days.

version of WordPress via FTP, always make sure you *delete* the
wp-admin and wp-includes directories first *then* upload the new
directories, do not overwrite these directories with the new ones,

for the PHP.INI to up the import space available. (from 2 megs to 8 or
something...) got rid of the file and now everything is working...

Absolutely agree with this one (nice way of doing things, beanz). The
Dashboard modules definitely need visual clues for expanding and
collapsing of each module. Yes, I know that the Dashboard is still a
work in progress but still...

It depends on your host. I haven't a clue about CPanel, but I would imagine
it would be under system logs. If not you can generally get to it by looking
in the logs folder that is generally just outside the htdocs folder, that's
the folder you put all website content in.

The default should be what is already set in the DB. During install
we set the default formats, and those defaults are marked for
translation.

I've been having problems with the spell check for quite a while now (had
the issue in 2.6 as well) and I just got down to re-building php with
openssl and curl. I thought it would solve the issue but it hasn't. I still
get the same error window in WP with gibberish in it and now there
w00t! I can confirm that having no comments causes the problem, and
having a comment on any post fixes it.
