My system spec is just like yours, Leaktek Ti4200, now I have my debian 3.0 running. At first it didn't start and said that the screen was found but could not config. Then I knew that I was using XFree86 4.1.0 where this is using XFConfig-4 instead of XFConfig, and I read the information from nvidia to get the idea that XFConfig-4 is using the driver "nv" but this is not working for GF4 series, you have three choices:

1. Upgrade XFree86 to 4.3 because "nv" is supporting GF4 series now
2. Install to nVidia binary driver
3. Simply change the driver "nv" in XFConfig-4 to "vesa"

I am using the solution 3. But I am going to try the nVidia binary driver and XFree86 3.0 later.

Good luck and hope this helps.

Hello,
I'm a complete linux newbie, and i installed slackware 8.1, and liked it, but had an ATI rage 128 32MB video card back then. That one went kaput, and I bought an MSI GeForce 4 Ti 4200, Now i loaded up slackware 9.0 (never tried 8.1 w/ new card), and i cant get the x window system to start. I get the same error every time, and ive gone through the xfsetup and xfconfig to no previal. My error message is on the lines the fact that it says it found a screen but could not config it. But then the output file says that access is denied when i try to open it or copy it to a floppy, and i only have the root login, so i dont even know how to get the file to show it to you guys. But as for this problem, maybe it has already happened, and somone had the same issue and knows how i can fix it. My monitor is a ViewSonic GS790. If you need to know anything, just e-mail me back. i sure hope someone knows what i can do, because i sure dont.
Thanks in advanced.
