Is your mouse a usb device? If not, perhaps try /dev/psaux instead of /dev/input/mice. You should try dpkg-reconfigure too. It may give you configure options for the keyboard that you haven't though of yet. Once you have a XF86Config-4 that works, then edit it by hand for whatever tuning and
