I'm assuming that's /etc/X11/xkb/geometry/hp it's complaining
about. Remove it manually and make install again. Perhaps
you are aliasing rm someplace so that it's not being forced.

The problem appears to be with the specific tools on my system
(bog-standard OpenBSD 3.3), but I can't figure it out.
