Hi,
In order to patch my kernel with the latest DRM drivers so that I enable direct
rendering with my SiS graphics card, I got the latest linux-drm-4.4.0-kernelsource
from http://www.xfree86.org/~alanh/
I untarred it in /usr/src/linux/drivers/char/drm/
Then I tried to compile it with make -f

It doesn't look like there is anything wrong with the server.
The repeated messages at the end of the log look weird but that's
probably just the server restarting. Can you just run XFree86

Mark,
I agree in thinking it's the startup scripts or the windows manager. Unless XFree86 comes with a windows manager, I do not have one installed. I can get X to start, if I
(1) exit to shell CTRL-ALT-F1
(2) remove lock file /tmp/.X0-something
(3) run startx
When I do, I get a screen with 3-4

Would installing one work?
Of course you'll have to have one installed, but that might already be the
case. Window managers are usually started from the .xinitrc in your home
Think this is also the cause of not being able to start a display server on bootup? I'll def. have a look at it and attach it when I get home if it doesn't work.
Dankjewel,
Lex

Hello,
Though a newbie, I believe I followed all the
directions carefully. I'm using the latest libc5 version of X, trying to
put it on TinyLinux on an old PC. Any feedback welcome as I'd really like
to get this working.
Thanks,

I'm getting black screen after power resume on version 4.4.99.2.
I can see the mouse, all window frames, but black contents.
No such problem with 4.3.0.
Tested on linux 2.4.26-rc2 and 2.6.5
I'm using apm to resume, and with 4.3.0, it works fine.
Thanks,
Jeff

I think there's a bug in the acceleration code of the s3 driver. When scrolling (with
acceleration enabled), only parts of the screen that become newly visible really get
visible, the screen doesn't scroll up. XaaNoScreenToScreenCopy option solves it.
