First of all I must say I am using Linux since a month (only in console mode... still trying to start X). What I mean is that I am able to use commands but I still don't really know how configuration files work (still reading on that). So, I am sending you the full message I reveive when I type "startx" (it's joined to the E-Mail). May be the "Fatal error: No screens detected" will seem strange to you (it is!) but I have to say my screen work (well... in console mode...). Here is some information about my system, if it can help you. I am using a pentium 133 mhz with a Ati 128 as video card. The linux distribution I am using is Linux Mandrake 7.0.
It would be great if you could help me with this problem (I am stuck). Tell me if you need any more information.
Note: This system was given to me by someone (he hadn't any information about it). I am sure the video card is using a chipset Ati Rage 128 but I don't know if it's a fury or magnum or pro or whatever(it's not written on it). It's the same thing for my monitor (it's written "Magnavox on the front and "Phillips" at the back >< and I don't know anything about the "VertRefresh" or the "HorizSync". That's why I put "Ati Rage 128 (generic)" as video card and the lowest numbers possible as "VertRefresh", etc.
Note: Sorry for my poor english, I am french. But if you can answer me, do it in english, I will understand.
