I thought that is possible to bypass the motherboard BIOS completely and access the card directly. I've recently read that in today computers the BIOS is somehow obsolete (because of ACPI?) and it can be bypassed entirely. When compiling the linux kernel I know that there is an option for PCI card detection: to use the BIOS or to do it without. I'm not very familiar with all these things, this is why I'm asking more knoledgable people on the list. Of course Dell doesn't want to support such a configuration (on the other hand they didn't want to sell me a workstation with an non-onboard video card and without windows).
