Here is the complete error message after I installed the newest xfree86 using Xinstall.sh.
(gedit:1304): Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by Xlib (gedit:1304): Gdk-WARNING **: can not set locale modifiers (gedit:1304): Gtk-WARNING **: Loading IM context type 'xim' failed I tried to input Chinese characters but failed. However the menu's in many applications seem to be fine with Chinese characters except in evolution and openoffice.
