Well there you go - you learn something new each day!!
I always thought that SMAIL was local (inbound) delivery.
I have located SMTP entries and can see they are what I'm looking for.
One thing I searched for in the smail logs was evidence of retries/rejects -
but it seems to only list successful outbound SMTP emails.
Davide, can you confirm this is the case? However your response to Soenke
(below) suggests otherwise.

Maybe he means something like also logging failed SMTP delivery attempts in
SMAIL log?! ;-)

There's already a thorough log inside /smail/ for that.
