If you are trying to use X on such a display and X keeps quitting with a No valid
mode type error try adding:
Option CrtScreen
to the monitor section of the config file. This will cause X to skip the _cranky_
monitor test code and might solve the problem.

I commented out the version compare #ifdef and forced it to use the other
block... works fine now.
