one of the appealing things about del.icio.us is that
it's slightly opaque.  i'm always finding, with
suprise and pleasure, new pages, views, ways of using
del.icio.us.

if someone is marketing a product, they spell out all
the product's virtues up front.  with communities, on
the other hand, participants learn by acculturation -
the more you participate, the more you understand.

i like the fact that del.icio.us is a community not a
product.

if you did want to put more information on the "about"
page, i'd suggest tips for new users on finding other
users with common interests.  

for example, use the search function to look up topics
that interest you; see what tags other users apply to
the sites you like; then start using those tags for
your own posts; and check out the other users who've
tagged the same page (i know this is obvious to
readers of this listserve but maybe not so obvious to
new del.icio.us users).

links to some of the more interesting user-developed
