definition of the long version of their name, if it is visible.

Yeah, this seems like a reasonable idea.
My main concern is using stuff like feed: and whatever that lots of
browsers cannot render, so we'd have to have logic in there to make this
work properly. For example, we can just turn feed: into http: since it's
not actually a protocol.
