Except that we would lose millions of jobs during the transition from a personal vehicle society to a mass transit one. One thing I've come to believe is that personal access to transportation is as important to freedom as is the right to bear arms. It is much easier to track people on trains

Gas prices have now reached record high levels in the US. Over $2 per gallon in some areas. Isn't it a good thing we mounted such an effective imperialistic war against the Iraqis, just so we could steal away their oil? I can imagine what the prices would be otherwise.
