Since I connect to wireless APs with nameservers not patched against
the cache poisoning vulnerability, I'd like to stick with using the
opendns.com servers for a while. I'm using wpa_supplicant and
openresolv. What's the best way for me to keep my resolv.conf from being
overwritten when I
hostname works
fine. Also, using the IP address directly, I can access the internet.
I am suspecting that the new glibc 2.10 is causing this. Anybody else
having this issue?
I had this issue a couple of weeks ago. I think it was the upgrade to
net-dns/openresolv-3.3.2 which was responsible

So far, I've just put the opendns servers
in /etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d/head so that they are always on
top, which is probably good
to work, great, use it. But be aware there will come a day

When I get a minute I'll have a look at net-dns/openresolv which Fernando
suggested. I think it will do what want.

You could install net-dns/openresolv, and set resolvconf=NO in
/etc/resolvconf.conf. openconnect.sh will automatically utilize

ago. I think it was the upgrade to
net-dns/openresolv-3.3.2 which was responsible. The solution was to
edit etc/resolvconf.conf and uncomment the line
name_servers=127.0.0.1
That's what I tried yesterday and it resolved the problem. So it seems
the new resolver does not default to checking
, that's good. Now just get a small (4 or 8 port) ethernet hub, and a
few more CAT5 cables. Don't use the ethernet cable that came with
the modem. Hook everything up to the hub (including modem) with the
new CAT5 cables.
On your hosts, emerge net-misc/dhcpcd and net-dns/openresolv. Clear
everything
it. But be aware there will come a day
when that is no longer true.

why don't you go with the dns server addresses supplied by each
network's dhcp? Presumably the admin put them
page. It is done by a dhcpcd hook that

- - resolvconf : Enable support for DNS managing framework
net-dns/openresolv
You can create a package.use file in /etc/portage and add a line to it
that includes the package name and use variable that will enable it. [0]
ex. echo net-misc/vpnc openssl /etc/portage/package.use

Gentoo way but it still didn't work. Then I googled, searched the
Gentoo wiki and tried some of those things, still refuses to use the
manually entered nameserver. I've tried resolv.conf, resolvconf.conf
and resolv.conf-tun0.sv. I installed openresolv to see if that would
help. Nope.

AFAIR, you're meant to pull down from the openvpn server the DNS resolvers
you're meant to use with their service, unless you have your own reasons for
wanting to override these and set up your ow
ng at the systemd ebuild, seems to be included by default
because there isn't a use flag for it and there's no script removing
it) and if you change "hosts: files dns" to "hosts: files resolve" in
"/etc/nsswitch.conf". Otherwise, resolved is basically an openresolv
replacement.
